Mardi Gras Float Work Session #3

  • 01/21/2024
  • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • 958 Douglas Ave. in Dunedin.

Help build this year’s Mardi Gras float!

Our theme this year is "The Wizard of Odd."

We’ll put our own twist on this classic story.

The float will include an amazing Emerald Castle along with the Land of the East where the Munchkins and Lollipop Kids live. Dorothy and Toto, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion will be there along with Flying Monkeys and the Wicked Witch, too!

We need volunteers to help build the float. There will be work sessions every weekend ahead of the parade on Sat., Feb. 10. You don't need to sign up, just show up.

Work Session #3

The work plan includes:

  • Attaching green coroplast to the Emerald castle structure.
  • Forming the Emerald castle's towers and cone tops from PVC expanded sheets.
  • Painting the castle towers and cone tops green.
  • Painting the Witch's side of the castle gray.
  • Constructing the yellow brick road.
  • Constructing the drawbridges for the Emerald and Witch's castles.
  • Painting Dorothy's house, adding and painting the porch, doors and windows; highlighting roof shingles.
  • Painting the rest of the poppies and hollyhocks, bamboo poles for stems and PVC for leaves; attaching lollipops to bamboo poles.
  • Checking lights strings to confirm they work.
