    Please join us for out annual Blessing of the Fleet!!

    This year’s Blessing of the Fleet will be with Pastor Whitney Burton-Smith, from the Church of the Good Shepherd, officiating.

    • All members are invited to participate in this event.
    • We are offering both in-person blessings as well as virtual blessings.
    • This event will take place rain or shine!
    • Following the blessing of the boats, we will honor members that passed away in the past year, and have a blessing of the Clubhouse and DBC members.

    REGISTRATION:

    If you would like to have your boat blessed, please signup via the blue “Register” button on this page.  
    NOTE:  Online signup is requested for both in person and virtual blessings.

    • In-Person Blessings:  For in-person blessings, please meet at the Clubhouse at the designated time.  If your boat is not located in the Dunedin Marina, please bring a picture of your boat with you to the Clubhouse or make arrangements with the harbor master for temporary mooring.
    • Virtual Blessing:  For those unable to attend in person, please email a picture of your boat to Chris Benson and she will have your boat blessed during the virtual blessings.  Be sure to include your name and boat name in the email so Chris can match you to the online registration.

    Background on Blessing of the Fleet from Wikipedia:

    The Blessing of the Fleet is a tradition that began centuries ago in Mediterranean fishing communities. The practice began predominantly Catholic, but is now practiced by all Christians as a blessing from the local priest and pastors that is meant to ensure a safe and bountiful season.

    In most ports, the event was brought by immigrants who held strongly to their Christian religious beliefs. The events that are part of the ritual vary by community and range from a simple ceremony to a multi-day festival including a church service, Parades, Pageantry, Dancing, Feasting, and Contests.

    Come join us for DBC's Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser!

    This is our annual fundraiser to help offset the cost of our Mardi Gras Float.  Let's make this our best spaghetti dinner event ever!!

    • OUR HOSTS:  

      • Blue Gavel, Dunedin Chapter
    • ATTENDEES:  

      • DBC Members and Invited guests
      • NOTE:  Per DBC guidelines, each adult member can invite a maximum of 2 guests.
    • DONATION FEE:  

      • $20.00 per person
      • All proceeds go to our Mardi Gras Parade Float and to beads for the members marching in the parade.
    • WHAT'S INCLUDED:  

      • All-you-can-eat pasta, salad, and garlic toast. 
      • You will receive a wristband with 3 drink tickets for beer and wine.
    • WHAT TO BRING:  

      • Please bring a dessert to share!
    • REGISTRATION (Online Payment Only):

    Parade begins at 7:00 PMCome early to the VFW for a drink and some hamburgers, check out everyone's costume, and the view the other floats.  


    MEMBER REGISTRATION FOR PARADE WALKERS:

    • Members are invited to walk in the parade alongside our fantastic float!

    • For members walking in the parade, there will be a $10 fee to help cover the cost of the beads. You will also need to review and electronically sign the waiver form located on the registration page.

    • When can I register?  When registration becomes available, you will see the blue "register" button on this page. Only members who plan to walk in the parade need to register.

    Join us for a fun day at Caladesi Island for a BYOE get together!

    BYOE means to Bring Your Own Everything (bring anything you want to eat, drink, sit-on, etc. )

    We will plan to meet in the Marina area on Caladesi at 11:00 AM.

    How to Get There:  You can bring your boat, catch a ride with a friend, kayak, or take the Caladesi Ferry from Honeymoon Island.  Editors note:  Swimming to Caladesi is NOT recommended!  :-)

        SAFETY FIRST AND FUN WILL FOLLOW!!!

          • Get your water squirting devices and join the raucous crowd searching for the Captain's Laundry!
          • Decorate your boat, dress like a pirate, and come out for a rowdy day!!
          • One hour prior to the race there will be water fights while kayaking and paddling, until all are throughly soaked.
          • Once the race begins, one needs to keep an eye out fo the Captain's Laundry.
          • There will be 7 items of his laundry on floats along the course.
          • Whoever completes the course and has the most laundry will be deemed the winner!
          • NO WATER BALLOONS OF ANY TYPE ALLOWED!!!
        • Attendees:  DBC Members and Invited Guests (limited to 2 guests per adult member)
        • Participant Boat Types:  
          • Kayaks
          • Standup Paddleboards
          • Any vessel meant to be paddled

        • Awards:  Awards for best pirate, best boat, race winner, and anything we think deserves an award!

        VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

          • Our annual pig roast is one of our premier events of the year.  Come be a part of our history by volunteering your time to help out!  Lot's of fun positions available.
          • Volunteers needed (as of 6/1/2023):
            • Night before the Event:  3 to 4 overnight "Vampires" to assist the VFW team with the cook
            • Afternoon of the Event:  6 to 8 people to help will pulling the pork.
            • Afternoon before the Event:  2 to 3 people to help with set-up
            • During the Event:  2 to 3 people for checking people in at the door and handing out wristbands
            • During the Event:  2 food runners to keep the food lines replenished

          Cruisers:  Plan to stay at the Caladesi Marina overnight.  Traditionally our cruisers stay overnight on Friday night, and many stay overnight on Saturday night as well.  There is usually a bonfire and cookout, and there have been a few occasions when we watched "Captain Ron".  It is always a fun day on Caladesi and a fun evening around the campfire.

          Non-cruisers:  Bring your boat for the day, catch a ride over/back with a friend, or take the Caladesi Ferry over/back for the day.

          • PARTICIPATION:  This event is open to all boaters (Members and Non-Members).  Registration is required to participate. 
          • REGISTRATION:

            • REGISTRATION ENDS:  November 29, 2023 at Midnight

          • MAXIMUM PARTICIPANTS:  40 boats
          • STARTING LOCATION:  The parade will begin at Marker 1 Marina, located on the Dunedin Causeway
          • ENDING LOCATION:  The parade will conclude at the City of Dunedin Marina.
          • START TIME:  The parade will leave from Marker 1 Marina starting at 6:00 PM.  
          • SKIPPER'S INSTRUCTIONS:  Skipper's Instructions for the parade will be provided within your registration confirmation email.
          • MANDATORY SKIPPER'S MEETING:  The Skipper's meeting for the parade will be at the Dunedin Boat Club Clubhouse on Thursday, November 30th at 6:30 PM.  The address is:  49 Marina Plaza, Dunedin, FL 34698 (West side of the Dunedin Marina).
          • JUDGING LOCATION:  The judging will be conducted as you pass through the channel coming into the City of Dunedin Marina.
          • WAIVER:  Skippers are required to read and agree to a waiver during registration.  Acceptance of the waiver is a requirement to participate in the Lighted Boat Parade.
          • NO POLITICAL DECORATIONS:  We ask that boat decorations DO NOT contain politically related messages.
          • NO SANTA COSTUMES:  So we don't confuse the kids, we ask that boat decorations and crew DO NOT contain a likeness of Santa, as the real Santa will be arriving on the last boat.
